It depends on when you mail away your application. The processing time in the summer is 2-3 months and closer to 5-6 months in the winter.
Unfortunately there is NO temporary status. You cannot buy ammunition or firearms until the card comes back in the mail.

You have to be at least 12 years old to take the Non-Restricted and 18 to take the Restricted. Between the ages of 12 and 18 you will get a Minors permit. The Minors permit allows you to shoot within general supervision of a licensed adult, and also means you do not have to take class again when you turn 18. Instead, you would just file the adult paperwork, and you're good to go.
- 03
As long as you renew your licence every five years, the class is good for life. The only time you may have to take the class again, is if you let your licence expire, or you get in firearms related legal trouble.

No, the only thing you can legally do with your Restricted firearms, is take them to an approved range for target practice or a competition.
- 05
Non-Restricted firearms, as long as you're doing everything safely and following the rules for your area, are usually ok. Check into your areas bylaws to be sure.
With Restricted firearms, you would need to call 1-800-731- 4000, and follow their guidance. There are ways to have a range on your private property.
Until you go through the proper steps, and have the CFO approve your range you CANNOT shoot Restricted firearms.
- 06
